The Taxi of Tomorrow for New York City

Minibus Nissan NV200 has been named as ‘Taxi of Tomorrow‘ to New York City after going through stiff competition from Ford and Karsan. The contest aims to build a legacy of century-old city taxi and find a vehicle that is built that can meet the needs of busy commuters. Width rear compartment features a full glass roof to see the panorama of the city.

Back in 2007, the government of New York City to create a set of goals for the next generation of taxis as part of a project called ‘Taxi of Tomorrow‘. In December 2009, New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission to invite manufacturers and designers to submit their ideas for vehicles, purpose-built to serve as taxis in New York City. At the end of this evaluation, the Nissan NV200 is selected and will take place as the next New York City taxi in 2013, for a period of ten years.

As part of the program, Nissan will also work with the City and the owner of a taxi in a pilot program to study the use of zero-emission, electric vehicles as taxis. Nissan will provide up to six percent of the 100-Nissan electric leaf for taxi owners for testing in 2012 and filling stations to support its use.

NV200 has a substantial input from drivers, owners and passengers, as a result, mini-cab offers an array of features such as low horn annoyed with exterior light that indicates when the vehicle horn, helps reduce noise pollution, transparent roof panel is said to provide a unique view of city ??and a mobile charging station for passengers that includes 12V power outlet and two USB plugs. This feature is in addition to more conventional attributes such as sliding doors with entrance steps and grab handles to assist easy entry and exit, while in front of IP to offer standard driver navigation and telematics systems.
