The 2012 Audi RS5 will be headed to our side of the pond with a few exterior modifications and an updated interior, but power will still come from the sports coupe’s V8 engine. That will give you dynamic ride control and dynamic steering, 20? alloys and a sports exhaust and all for £2,250 – a saving of £665 over ticking the relevant option boxes. In Germany, you can order your RS5 beginning in May, with deliveries starting in June. On its home turf, the RS5’s price list starts at €77,700 (about $106,000), some €5000 more than a BMW M3 coupe with a dual-clutch transmission.

The RS5 keeps the RS4’s high-revving, naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V-8, but now it’s stronger by 30 hp, for a total of 450. The compression ratio is 12.3:1. High-revving in this case means up to an 8300-rpm redline, so long as the oil is up to temperature; the engine is protected by a 6000-rpm limiter otherwise.

The Audi RS5 features a 4.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 with 444 bhp (331 kW; 450 PS) and 317 lb·ft (430 N·m) of torque, which had previously been used in the now-discontinued Audi RS4 (B7), however the RS5′s engine tuned for an additional 30 hp (22 kW). While the RS4 had only a Getrag 6-speed manual, the RS5′s sole transmission is a 7-speed “S tronic” dual clutch semi-automatic.

The Audi RS5, which is only available as a two-door Coupé, was presented at 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Audi RS5 Redesigned receives a facelift and is equipped with a 4.2-liter V8 engine that pumps up 450 hp (336 kW) at over 8,000 rpm. Extra kit on the 2012 RS5 includes Bluetooth, Cruise, DVD SatNav and MMI iPod connection. You can also upgrade the Cruise to Adaptive Cruise. There’s also a new flat-bottomed  RS steering wheel and stuff like improved switchgear and optional inlays.

In the RS5, shifts occur without any hesitation, and the quickness produces some sweet burbles and overrun from those twin exhaust cannons out back.

The 2012 Audi RS5 is now on sale with first deliveries expected in April. And it offers enough to make you wonder if the BMW M3 can keep its crown.
